During the 18th century, the Empress Catherine the Great of Russia received a very unusual and impressive gift. King Stanisław August Poniatowski of Poland presented her with the "Potato Bouquet." The bouquet consisted of various types of potato plants, which were relatively new to Europe at the time. This gift played a significant role in introducing the potato to Russia and encouraging its cultivation, ultimately helping to alleviate food shortages and contributing to the Russian diet. Catherine the Great is said to have promoted the potato's use in Russia, which became a staple food source for the nation.
