What are Microgreens?

What are Microgreens

Microgreens are the young seedlings (shoots) of newly germinated, edible plants, such as broccoli, red cabbage and radish.

These young shoots are up to nine times denser than their older, larger plants, in nutrients, antioxidants and polyphenols, making them not only very tasty, but bursting with health benefits.
You can add them to salads, sprinkle over soups, stir into stews, curries, risottos, pasta bakes and casseroles. They are also yummy in sandwiches, pitta breads and wraps, the only limit’s the space in your tummy! Check out our recipes.
Microgreens, like all edible plants that are part of a good balanced diet,  contain  vitamins – B1, , C, E and K, as well as  essential minerals such as iron, magnesium, zinc, calcium,  phosphorus and potassium. As with all green veg, they contain beta carotene that your body uses to make vitamin A.
Whether you need to boost your immune system, kickstart your energy levels or give to your gut, Teeny Greeny has a mighty microgreen seed mix for you. Treat your body and taste buds to a riot of flavours and nutrients and mosey on over to our products page.
Microgreen Fact
It is thought that the higher concentration of polyphenols in microgreens deter the plants’ normal predators, like snails.  Conversely, these organic chemicals are just what attract humans to want to nibble at microgreens!
